![]() ![]() Euphoria is the scarred, scary older sibling Sex Education is the eager, blundering youngest and Genera+ion (the “+” a reference to the LGBTQ+ acronym, and not Disney+) is the Goldilocks: still sorting things out but without the world-weariness. The sun-drenched Californian high school setting where sexuality + gender expression get to be the kaleidoscopic wonder they are without condescending explanation or traumatizing violence is downright utopian. The genera+ional differences can be stark + delightful: watching the adults bloviate over pronouns while the teens lounge in the mediocrity of a non-heterosexual identity is a nice chef’s kiss. HBO Max’s first young adult comedrama will draw expected comparisons to corporate sibling Euphoria, but it honestly feels more like an American version of Netflix’s Sex Education.
